My Revision Paragraphs

Original Paragraph

My family is originally from North Carolina. I've lived most of my life here in Utah, but every other summer my family takes a trip to reunite with the Abbott side on the east coast. "Carolina" sung by Matt Wertz makes me think of the trips we've taken there in the past and all of the cherished times I have experienced there.

Revised Paragraph

My family is originally from North Carolina, so I have experienced many good times over on the coast. The memories I have there are endless! Being on the beach, building sand castles on the shore, ghost crab hunting, and searching for beached seashells have always been some of my favorite things to do while I am there. I've lived most of my life here in Utah, but every other summer my family takes a trip to reunite with the Abbott side on the east coast. "Carolina" sung by Matt Wertz makes me think of the trips we've taken there in the past and all of the cherished times I have had there.

My Life Sounds Like This..

The first song I chose to put on my CD is called “Lifeline” by Angels and Airwaves. First of all, I absolutely love this song because it is sung by my favorite band. Second, it brings back some of the memories I had when I first moved to St. George. I work with my roommate Courtney, who is my age. Every day we drive to lunch around noon and listen to Angels and Airwaves the whole hour we are gone from work. Not a day has gone by since we started working together where an Angels and Airwaves song hasn’t been played.

“Forever Young” sung by Youth Group has always reminded me of the close friends I had in high school. The words of this song describe us almost identically. We would always talk about how we never wanted to grow up and be separated from each other. We would always wish that we’d stay young forever.

My Childhood Memory

Growing up in the little town of Monroe, I have come to learn many, many things from my personal experiences that have happened there. One in particular stood out from the others as I was thinking of what I could post as one of my life defining moments. It all started when I was eight years old and had just learned how to drive a four wheeler..

Living in Monroe for 18 years of my life meant that I was a small town girl who lived almost in the middle of nowhere and loved to ride those four wheelers! My brother and sisters and I were always allowed to drive the wheelers as long as my parents were at home to look after us while we were riding them. This was always an important rule at our house and if the rule was ever broken, there was always a price to pay. So for the most part, we simply obeyed our parents by doing what we were told and not riding them while they were gone.

Well one day as my parents were heading into town for a couple of hours, they simply stated the rules loud and clear to us as they walked out the door. Almost all of the rules they recited went in one of my ears and out the other when all of a sudden I heard my mom say, "NOBODY RIDE THE FOUR WHEELERS WHILE WE ARE GONE." After that was said, my parents were gone and just us kids were left at the house.

Long story short, I ended up taking out one of our four wheelers against my parent's word. I was having a grand old time spinning doughnuts and riding all over the big hills when I decided to go up a steep hill I had never driven up before. Before I could make it to the top of the hill, the four wheeler went tumbling down the hill and I went down with it.

I ended up having scars that I still have to this day that remind me of what happened the day I disobeyed the rules of my parents. I learned a VERY valuable lesson that day and I can honestly say I have never made the mistake of taking the four wheeler without permission again.

"Calling Home" & "An American Childhood"

On a literal level, both of these stories share experiences of a young child who gets into trouble and in the end learns something valuable from it.

I think that writers use framing to sort of bring the whole story together in the end. It involves taking something significant from the beginning of the story and then bringing it up again towards the end. In a way it wraps everything up and makes the reader think back and take a look at the big picture at the end of the story.

When a writer includes self experiences or their own life lessons they have learned, it makes up a very well written and interesting story. I love reading or hearing about what other people have gone through. It keeps my attention and helps me learn from their past experiences as well.

My Very First Post

Keeping a blog requires each of us to risk ourselves in language because we are all expressing our own thoughts and feelings for everybody to see. All of us will have different views and opinions from one another and sometimes it's hard for some to convey so openly with such a diverse group of people.

Blogging and other forms of online communication have become so popular because it's a great and convenient way to correspond and stay in touch with the people you know. I have never blogged before, but I'm a big fan of facebook just because it helps me stay close to the friends I have parted from since high school.
